Jim Beam Repeal Batch

Jim Beam Repeal Batch

I have a confession. I’m not a big Jim Beam dog. It just isn’t my style. However, this special edition, Repeal Batch from Jim Beam is worth barking about.

This special bourbon is non-chill filtered and is made to honor the 85th anniversary of the Repeal of Prohibition.

What is great about this and sets it apart from the regular JIM is the non-chill filtering – keeping in all those tasty oils really improves the final product!

On the nose, you get notes of corn, breakfast cereal, oak, brown spice like clove and cinnamon, and some grilled fruit like cherries.

The taste is oaky, vanilla, smoky fruit, brown spice, breakfast cereal, and toffee.

This bourbon is great on its own and also with a cube. What else is nice? It is only about $18!

Get celebrating, friends!

German Pinot puts me in an introspective mood. Red and some dark cherries, dark forest floor, cinnamon, brown spices, and leather on the nose. More red and black cherries on the palate with some cola nut, dark spices, and leather. Nice acidity on this guy.

Bandol always puts me in a good mood. Small dark berries on the nose with red and black licorice and wood notes. Small, dark sweet berries on the palate with hints of licorice, mint, and wood. This guy is a little thinner than what I usually expect from a Bandol.

Fifty Pounds Gin

Fifty Pounds Gin

Do you even lift, Doge?

Here’s another London distilled gin. This one is named after the 50 pound tax, created by the 1736 Gin Act, which charged anyone who wanted to open a still and produce gin 50 pounds.

The aroma of this gin is very classic – juniper, lemon, lime, with a hint of lemon creme.

The palate tastes of drying juniper, lemon, lime, and then notes of coriander. Lemon zest and lemon creme carry into a long, long finish.

This isn’t an easy drinking gin – there’s some bite to this – this is more your grandmother’s gin (you know, the handle of gin she had tucked away in her liquor cabinet) than the kind of cucumber or lemon/lime that is all the rage these days.

If you make a G&T with this guy (which you should) add something sweet to balance the bite – maybe some lime!
