2014 Wines of Substance K Vintners The Deal Sundance Vineyard Syrah

Practicing my social distancing with my typical shiva-aloof stance. This wine is all Syrah fermented with all native yeasts and no destemming. Blackberries, blueberries, minerality, graphite turning sanguine, leather, and kalamata olive juice on the nose. Blackberries, cassis, and blackberry compote on the palate with black peppercorns, sanguine notes, and burnt ends. Very classic for a big, New World Syrah.

2016 Sleight Of Hand Cellars “The Spellbinder” Red

Gearing up for Halloween with super Pearl Jam fans, my hudad and Sleight of Hand Cellars! Blackberries, dark plums, some green herb notes, and currants on the nose. Velvety mouthfeel from the Merlot with loads of blackberries, black plums, dark cassis, and purple fruit. Still a hint of herb and green peppercorn sauce on steak notes.

2016 The Burn “Borne of Fire” Cabernet Sauvignon

A little candlelight dinner with my foxy friend here on this Friday night. Blackberries, blueberries, pancetta, a hint of fresh tar and wet smoke, and dark florals on the nose. Blackberries and blueberries on the palate with a hint of clove and sweet cinnamon (almost like cinnamon toast). Soft tannins. This would be great with BBQ – basically anything off the grill.

2016 Intrinsic Columbia Valley Red Blend

Tunnel vision into this Washington red. Blueberries, blackberries, mashed dark plums, cooked cherries, a hint of baking spices, mint, tar, cloves, and violets on the nose. Blackberries, blueberries, and cooked cherries on the palate with a nice tartness that’s surprising. After the tart notes, you get more cherries and blackberries with hints of mint, alcohol, tar, and even asphalt. Great wine for BBQ short ribs!

2010 Sparkman Cellars Wilderness Red

At attention with this Washington wine. Ripe red and black berries, crushed mixed berries, and vanilla on the nose. Red and dark cassis and cherry jam on the palate with hints of vanilla interwoven throughout.

2014 Tenet Wines “The Pundit” Syrah

These days I want to throw all pundits out the window, but when it’s a Syrah from Washington, I’ll keep the bottle, thank you very much. Ripe dark fruit, peppercorns, ground beef with herbs, and macerated cherries on the nose. Cherry fruit leather on the palate with cinnamon and still that whiff of ground beef. Peppery kick on the finish.
