2012 Les Alliés Côtes du Rhône

Basking in the sun now that it might finally be spring in these parts. This guy was a little rough out of the bottle – a decanting certainly helped. Blackberries, black cherries, and ripe strawberries on the nose with dark pepper, wood, and tar notes. Ripe dark fruit on the palate – blackberries and dark cherries – with a hint of wood and asphalt.

2017 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Parallèle 45 Côtes du Rhône Rosé

It’s always rosé season in my book. Cherries, strawberries, white pepper, and rose water on the nose and palate. Solid wine by a nice producer. Enjoy any time!

2014 Château Saint Jean Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu

Hehe. Hi there. Just throwing back some CdR on this fine day. Sweet black cherries, raspberries, blackberries, peppered fruit, and dusty earth notes on the nose. More cherries, raspberries, and blackberries on the palate with pepper, dry leather, and earth. Rustic, solid weeknight bistro wine.

Want something a bit different? Try a white Cotes du Rhone. It is hard to generalize what this wine tastes like, but it can be rich and fruity, yet earthy and mineral-y. Just try some! Pair with grilled or roast chicken or with veggies off the grill!

2017 Ferraton Père et Fils Samorens Côtes du Rhône Rosé

It’s finally rosé all dé season! Beautiful pink color on this guy that just screams spring. Red cherries, ruby red grapefruit, strawberries, peppered fruit and orange on the nose. Juicy ruby red grapefruit on the palate with red cherries and orange peel. Cheers!

The winter is the time for bold, spicy Cotes du Rhone. This one, the Domaine de Mourchon Côtes du Rhône-Villages Séguret Tradition (what a mouthful!) was rated #52 on the 2017 Wine Spectator Top 100 List and rated 90 points, at about $20 a bottle. These days, you can find many good bottles of Cotes du Rhone between $12-$20. Warm up with some!

2015 Paul Jaboulet Aîné “Biographie” Côtes du Rhône

I love me some holiday spirit, especially in wine form. This is some quality wine from a solid producer. Dark cherries, dark and green olives, olive leaves, succulents, and overripe blackberries on the nose. Primarily dark cherries with some red sprinkled in, some blackberries, olives, and currants. Less complex on the palate than on the nose.
