2017 Vina Belje “Kvalitetno” Graševina
You guys! I’ve got some excellent value Graševina, otherwise known as Welschriesling, here. The grape is planted all over Eastern Europe with especially good results in Croatia. Lime, lemon, green herbs, and loads of elderflower on the nose. Lime and lemon notes on the palate with golden apples and stony minerality. Better quality than you’ll find elsewhere for $12 for 1 liter!
2012 Pilizota Babić Reserve
Oh heyyyy… knockin’ back some Croatian wine while watching the World Cup. This starts with a minty, earthy note on the nose, like fresh mint leaves over some wet horse stable or a mint julep at the Kentucky derby. Dark fruit, deep spice, and some dried dark tea also on the nose. Plums and figs on the palate with sweet spice, herbs, fresh tobacco, and some remaining horse notes. This is some great, interesting stuff!
2013 Josić Ciconia Nigra Cuvée
Oh hey. Chillin’ like a villain with some Croatian wine, y’alls. Almost a sticky nose at first pour, but it calms down as the wine opens with blackberry, brown spice, and coffee notes. Blackberries, raspberries, clove, coffee, chocolate, and some pencil shavings sprinkled in on the palate.
Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
