2016 Vartsikhe Marani Krakhuna
Arrooooo! Orange wine from Georgia! This is also bottle 205 out of 550 made in the traditional method in qvevri. Brown cooked apples, browning pears, almonds, roasted chestnuts, even some hazelnuts, and a whiff of brandy on the nose. Browning fruit – apples, pears – nuts and baklava without the sweetness on the palate. Really cool style on this guy – it’s a white wine that drinks like a red!
2017 Monte Xanic Viña Kristel Sauvignon Blanc
Puttin’ on some mood lighting for this MEXICAN SauvBlanc, y’alls! Green pepper, green grass, lemon, jasmine, and vegetal notes on the nose. Similar greenness on the palate. Kinda interesting stuff!
Valle de Guadalupe Baja California, MEXICO
2018 Domaine Bousquet Chardonnay
You know what is cool about Southern Hemisphere wines? Their harvest is the Northern Spring, so you get to try the wines VERY fresh! Here I am in 2018, drinking a 2018 Chard. And a certified organic one to boot! Apple, pear, Meyer lemon spritz, and a hint of sweet marzipan on the nose. Golden delicious apples, Bosc pears, and Meyer lemon on the palate. This is a Chardonnay but it is so fresh it drinks like a lighter grape. It’s dry but feels like there’s a slight hint of sweetness because the fruit is so ripe. I’d do this with chicken or fish this summer – drink it young and fresh!

Brenne Single Malt French Whisky
Trying something a little different with this French whisky. Cotton candy, candied apples, exotic fruit, crème brûlée, and sweet apricots on the nose. Cotton candy, apricot, and candied, honeyed fruit on the palate. Very different. Very French. Very interesting! If you want a standard Scottish whisky, this isn’t what you are looking for. If you want something a bit different, this is worth a try.
2017 Domaine Skouras “Zoe” Rosé
Ohai. I’m all decked out for rosé season with some Greek rosé on paw. This is a light and fun one. Cherries, raspberries, white strawberries, and flowers on the nose. Similar on the palate with a hint of bubblegum. Cheers!
2016 Marques de Casa Concha Chardonnay
Holla! Just chillin’ with some Chilean Chard on paw. Vanilla, lemon crème, raw cashews and almonds, marzipan, and melon notes on the nose. Lemon and lemon crème on the palate with raw nut powder and macaron crust notes.
Limari Valley, CHILE
2014 Clos i Terrasses Clos Erasmus “Laurel”
Mmmm… nothin’ like an outstanding Priorat. Red and black plums, strawberries, mint, sapling, and fresh tobacco on the nose. Strawberries and plums on the palate with red cranberries and peppery fruit. A hint of even coca cola creeps in and then pulls back. Awesome stuff. Had it with some excellent meats and noms at Swift & Sons.
Garnacha (Grenache), Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah
2017 Il Poggione Brancato Rosato di Toscana IGT
Lazing around with my fellow shibe, who is way too chipper for me today. Raspberries, red flowers, rosewater, strawberries, and the tiniest hint of clove on the nose. Bright strawberries, raspberries and tart cherries on the palate with a bit of baking spice on the palate. Very perfumed and lovely.
2015 Talbott Vineyards Logan Sleepy Hollow Vineyard Pinot Noir
Nothing can go wrong with a great pinot from an excellent producer on paw. Raspberries, violets, leather, bay leaf, button mushroom and a whiff of animal notes on the nose. Raspberries, cherries (even Kirschwasser), mushrooms, and more violets on the palate. Great for the price as a high alcohol pinot!
Monterey County, California, USA
2008 R. Lopez de Heredia Viña Tondonia “Viña Cubillo” Crianza
Eyeing some delicious Lopez de Heredia magic sauce. The cooler vintage on this one is obvious with the higher acidity that really makes your tongue sweat. Cherries jump out on the nose with peppered strawberries, church pews, a hint of incense and tobacco. Tart cherries (mostly red but some black) on the palate with red plums, ultra ripe cranberries and red currants, a hint of tea and incense. Puckering acidity on this guy so it definitely needs food … like some serrano ham would be delish around now.
