Aperol Spritz

Aperol Spritz

I’m not ready for summer to end, y’all! That’s why I made perhaps my favorite summer cocktail, the Aperol Spritz! Put on your espadrilles, mix up this cocktail, and think Italian summer vibes!

Get a big ass wine glass, fill it with ice. Combine prosecco and Aperol in equal parts (or a hint more prosecco, if you want). Top the glass off with a splash of club soda and an orange slice and you’ll be enjoying summer anytime you want!

2016 Mönchhof Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabi…

2016 Mönchhof Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett Mosel

This is my “step away from my Riesling” face. Prickly lemon/lime on the nose with even a hint of salinity and minerality. Off-dry on the palate with apple, peach, lemon, and slate notes. This is an über classic Riesling – off-dry with slate notes and racy acidity. Rawr.

Edging out some flowers for this lovely German Pinot. So clean on the nose – red berries, bramble, forest floor, a hint of cola nut, and fresh leather. Red berries, cherries, and forest berries on the palate with some dark fruit and cinnamon and dark slate. Halfway between an Oregon Pinot and a Côte du Beaune.

So this is a value gem. Blackberries, black raspberries, macerated black cherries, cinnamon, black pepper, and brisket BBQ on the nose. More black fruit – blackberries, black cherries, black raspberries – and cinnamon on the palate. Almost meaty. Bold. Sexy. Full. Runs almost a bit hot, but delicious. Especially at this price!

Tanqueray Malacca Gin

Tanqueray Malacca Gin

1 liter of gin? Yes please! Here’s a gin that would go nicely in an aviation, negroni, or the classic G&T. On the nose it smells like lime, citrus, and grapefruit. The taste is lime, citrus, grapefruit, baking spices and then back to lemon and lemon creme, with vanilla creme on the finish. Pawsonally, I think the vanilla creme finish is kinda cool!

Taking it easy with some Chilean Chardonnay. Lemon, lime, pineapple, and maybe a hint of lemon crème on the nose. Limes dominate the palate with lemon, pineapple, and guava notes. Simple. Straightforward.

If you are like me, you like having a good wheated bourbon on paw. By that, I mean a bourbon that has rye replaced with wheat, generally giving it a smoother, sweeter flavor. If you’ve had Maker’s and like it, you like wheated bourbon.

Here’s one made by Heaven Hill and it’s a good one to find. It used to only be available around St Louis (GO CUBS!) so it might be new to your liquor shop and might even be on the bottom shelf. If it is, GOOD! Grab it and spend around $20 for a nice wheater.

Nice nose of honey, butterscotch, browned butter, bourbon vanilla, and brown apples. The sip starts creamy with notes of vanilla, butterscotch and wood, then progresses to smoke, molasses and peanut butter with just a hint of spice on the finish.

2016 Commanderie de la Bargemone Côteaux d’Aix en Provence Rosé

Putting my paws together for this rosé from the south of France. In fact, this property was once owned by the Knights Templar! Wild strawberries, red flowers, and currants on the nose. Strawberries, red peaches, and currants on the palate.
