2017 Bouchard Aîné & Fils Pouilly-Fuissé

This is my white Burgundy face. Meyer lemon, apple, honey, yellow flowers, and cashew notes on the nose. A little simpler on the palate with predominantly lemon, apple, and a hint of honeyed notes. Cheers!

2012 Pol Roger Brut

Happy V-Day! For all you lovers out there, I’d like to introduce two of my loves: Shake Shack and Champagne. The acidity from the champagne clears out the fat from every bite of burger so you get that first juicy bite of burger feel every time. It’s heavenly. Now onto the bubbly: peach, fresh-cut pear, apple, yeast, bread, biscuits, candied ginger, and daffodils on the nose. Cooked apple, lemon, ginger, honey, peach, apricot, and sourdough biscuit on the palate.

2017 Vina Belje “Kvalitetno” Graševina

You guys! I’ve got some excellent value Graševina, otherwise known as Welschriesling, here. The grape is planted all over Eastern Europe with especially good results in Croatia. Lime, lemon, green herbs, and loads of elderflower on the nose. Lime and lemon notes on the palate with golden apples and stony minerality. Better quality than you’ll find elsewhere for $12 for 1 liter!

2016 Domaine Weinbach Cuvée Sainte Catherine Riesling Schlossberg

Going big and by big, I mean MAGNUM, this Wine Wednesday on Alsatian Riesling. I mean, let’s be honest – a little Riesling out of a magnum is always fun. Lemon spritz, honeysuckle, slate minerality on the nose and palate. Tingling acidity with a long finish. Lovely!

Martin Miller’s Gin

If you want permission to come aboard my boat, you best be bringing some gin! (And don’t forget the lime.) This gin is Distilled in England with blended with Icelandic water. It smells of juniper, bitter orange peels, black licorice, and lots of orange. When you sip it, you’ll taste what you smelled, along with pine and some roots. This makes a great G&T, especially if you drop in a tea bag like from my friends at Harney & Sons!

2016 Meridio “Liama” Rosso Terre Siciliane IGT

Oh heyyyy, it’s Fri-YAY! Tart cherries, a hint of cranberries, loads of tart red fruit, and a whiff of aged balsamic on the nose. More tart cherries and red fruit on the palate with even a hint of dark cherries, a touch of anise mid-palate, and lingering acidity on the finish. This wine definitely needs food to balance it out.

Kobal Pennina Rosé Ptuj

Enjoying this fun Slovenian Blaufrankisch rosé on this snowy, thirsty Thursday. Strawberries, cranberries, blood orange, tangerine, and pink florals on the nose. Raspberries, cherries, and strawberries on the palate with blood orange, poundcake, and a watermelon-rosewater finish. Quite enjoyable!

2017 Bodegas Rafael Palacios “Louro do Bolo” Godello

Feeling pretty zen with this lovely Godello. Lemon, apple, orange blossom, seashells, and a hint of mimosa aroma on the nose. Similar notes on the palate with wonderful, wonderful minerality. Stellar stuff. Give it to your Burgundy-loving friends and tell them the price after they try it. Awesome.

Firkin Gin

Hey friends! Today I’m trying this gin that apparently put me on the bottle! (Or maybe that’s my cousin…)

This gin is rested in American Oak, so it has a bit of heft to it. It smells like juniper, smoke, ash, and wood. When you take a sip, you’ll taste oak, juniper, honey, almond, and wood notes.

I liked using this as whiskey light – in a whiskey highball for example – or just on its own. Give it a try!

2017 Hobo Wines Folk Machine “Avian Science” Carignane

Recovering from Super Bowl Sunday with this California Carignan. Blackberries, black cherries and spiced cranberries on the nose. Blacker fruit on the palate – black cherries, blackberries, and blueberries. Decent tannins on this guy with dry acidity.
