2015 Weingut Meyer-Näkel Spätburgunder

2015 Weingut Meyer-Näkel Spätburgunder

Edging out some flowers for this lovely German Pinot. So clean on the nose – red berries, bramble, forest floor, a hint of cola nut, and fresh leather. Red berries, cherries, and forest berries on the palate with some dark fruit and cinnamon and dark slate. Halfway between an Oregon Pinot and a Côte du Beaune.

So this is a value gem. Blackberries, black raspberries, macerated black cherries, cinnamon, black pepper, and brisket BBQ on the nose. More black fruit – blackberries, black cherries, black raspberries – and cinnamon on the palate. Almost meaty. Bold. Sexy. Full. Runs almost a bit hot, but delicious. Especially at this price!

2013 Bodega Domingo Molina “Hermanos” Malbec – Tannat

Oh hey hermanos. I could never say no to an Argentine Malbec-Tannat blend! Ripe purple fruit and stewed black fruit – think mixed raspberries, boysenberries – plums, dark cherries, tar, and smoke on the nose. Dark, dark stewed cherries and plums on the palate with hints of tar. I’m a fan of the Tannat grape and I’m excited to see more of it, even when it’s only in a blend!

2010 Tenuta Col d’Orcia Poggio Al Vento Brunello di Montalcino

At attention because this Brunello will stop traffic on the street. Leather first on the nose, then loads of cherries and plums. Bright spices and mint round out the nose. Brighter on the palate where it really dances in the mouth. Fresh cherries, drying tannins from tea, fresh leather, and a bit of mushroom.
