Wanna get sophisticated and a bit fancy this summer? Spring for a Chablis (the one pictured is one of my all-time favorites)! Burgundy’s typically-oak-free expression of Chardonnay is sometimes a bit chalky, often minerally, full of expressive fruit and hedonistic fun, without the slam dunk of vanilla or toasty oak flavors. Splurge for some this summer!
A collage of white wines to enjoy this summer.
Another cheap, accessible, fun, carefree summer wine is Gruner Veltliner, from Austria. It is an amazing “first wine of the night” if you’re on a tasting tear and a nice, elegant white wine that thrives with a chill. Get your summer night started off with one soon!
If you read Corkshrewd, you already know that I promote Torrontes as a fun, cheap, delicious summer white wine. Just thought I’d do that again, for old times’ sake 😉
Another Wine Folly graphic on Sauvignon Blanc, my pick for best perrenial summer wine. So many fun flavors; this is the white wine grape that got me into drinking white wine!
Anybody cook with wine recently? I love doing it when I can. It’s fun to see what a little bit of red or white will do to a dish.
I’ve been doing white wine and shrimp off the grill a lot this summer. Pinot Gris is one I reach for often (just because I like it, personally), but there’s so much good dry white wine that goes well with seafood. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
Lined up and ready for a good time.
Vermentino and shrimp is a good idea.
